Taking The Trade To New Dimensions
JCK LAS VEGAS CONCLUDES
Despite the difficult economy, high priced goods remained strong. Black and brown diamonds have become favorites for many manufacturers and designers including Waldman Diamond Company that just launched its Arctic Night Collection of black diamond jewellery and Le Vian with its yummy new chocolate diamond designs set in strawberry gold.
Dallas-based retailer Neiman Marcus stores will continue to give discounts for a while, according to a report in The Dallas Morning News. The group management said on Wednesday that it was more promotional than it wanted to be in its fiscal third quarter in order to move merchandise.
Vegas Show Standouts: Trends Overview
• More designer brands are aligning themselves with celebrities to launch lines i.e. Stephen Webster with singer Christina Aguilera for new silver collection, Zalemark with fashion design team Badgley Mischka for bridal collections, and Mouwad with singer Seal for unisex lockets.
• Personal statements are important in charms, lockets, whimsical motifs, nature-inspired themes, and iconic or talisman symbols.
• Clear quartz has become a designer favourite to create unique visuals and optics over top carvings, intricate gold work and other gems.
• Textured, hammered and folded surfaces create rich looks in gold. But because of its high price, many designers are using negative space, or mixing gold with silver or materials like wood, textile, and resin to cut costs. Rose gold tops trends, and recycled gold is garnering more interest. In lieu of gold chain, some designers are using gem bead necklaces.
• More designers who typically work in gold were introducing silver or silver and gold lines due to the high price of gold.
• Geometric shapes have given way to more organic, sometimes sculpted looks in designer jewellery.
• In addition to earthy gems like smoky topaz or quartz, chocolate diamonds, and citrine topping charts, green gems in vibrant combinations also are trendy like prehnite and pink tourmaline.
• Large diamonds, especially branded, did well, but not as well as last year.
• High-end watches did better than expected.
