The unique pieces and exhibits as well as around 400 global
exhibitors at the fourth largest minerals fair in the world delight visitors every year in the run-up to
Christmas. For three days in December, rare and fascinating minerals, exquisite jewellery,
precious one-of-a-kind pieces and extraordinary fossils from prehistoric times are at the
Hamburger Fairground to both astonish visitors and be purchased. The elite selection of
exhibitors is complemented by an exciting social programme. And those looking for that special
gift this Christmas are sure to find it.
New hall concept impresses
“We are already well booked,” says Michael Arfmann, Mineralien Hamburg Project Leader. “More
than 80 per cent of the exhibition space is rented.” Around 30 per cent of the registered exhibitors
will be taking part for the first time. The new hall concept was very well received by the exhibitors
who have already received their allotments. There is only one entrance and exit this year: the
East Entrance situated beside the Kirschhöfen will be open for the three fair days. Visitors will find
the extensive range of exhibitors, the hands-on activities for children and youth and a compact
lecture forum on four hall levels (B3 and B4). And this year's highlight, the Flower of Uruguay, can
be admired in the hub between halls B3 and B4.
Flower of Uruguay
Precious finds and selected specimens are featured on the Mineralien Hamburg programme. The
‘Flower of Uruguay’, which will be on show for the first time at the Mineralien Hamburg, is a
spectacular and fascinating piece that will enthral visitors at a special show. The piece comprises
of 400 kilogrammes of heavy druse with astounding amethyst crystals crowned in calcite. But
that’s not all: this unique druse opens in an audio-visual installation to the music of the multiple
award-winning jazz pianist, Joachim Kühn, and the voice of the famous actor and singer, Volker
Lechtenbrink.
Pupils’ Rally 2019 – A trip through the fascinating world of minerals
The kick-off of the Mineralien Hamburg is also devoted to its youngest visitors: on the first day of
the fair, more than 400 pupils from schools in Hamburg and northern Germany will visit the
fairground at precisely 10 am and embark on an exciting and educational exploration through the
world of minerals and fossils.
Outstanding programme for all the family
The Discovery Hall offers exciting activities for families and children, where experts will fuel the
fascination for rocks. The diverse programme covers ‘washing gold’ and ‘experiencing fossils’ to
‘excavations’.
The finishing touches
What gemstone processing is capable of and which wonderful pieces of jewellery can be created will also be demonstrated at the Mineralien Hamburg in the Discovery Hall. Visitors can watch a gemstone engraver and a gemstone cutter at work on all three days of the fair. The programme is rounded off by an information stand where you can find out everything about Germany's gemstone metropolis, Idar-Oberstein. Visitors can get to know the current Gemstone Queen personally.
