The International Gemological Institute (IGI) - the world's largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute announced the opening of their laboratory at Panjagutta in Hyderabad on 18 March 2013. Hyderabad is known as the city of pearls, the birth place of diamonds and housing the world-renowned Golconda diamond mines – Hyderabad; in the presence of well-known market players and luminaries from the jewelry industry.
Studying the tremendous untapped potential of the Hyderabad jewelry market, IGI observed the need to open a full fledged grading laboratory and education services in Hyderabad. IGI’s initiative to open certification laboratories at strategic locations across India is aimed at the future development of the gemstone market in the country.
IGI has been working closely with the retailers in Andhra Pradesh and organized a first of its kind, Buyer Seller Meet – the IGI D Show, in November 2012 which was well received by the participants and the next strategic step for IGI was to open a certification laboratory in Hyderabad, closer to the retailers in Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad is an emerging market with many well known retailers setting shop here and the increasing demand in the local market for gold and diamond jewelry. IGI will also provide education services and offer courses in Polished Diamond Grading, Jewelry Designing and other corporate programs for the Andhra Pradesh region. The first course in Hyderabad will be held on between April 15- April 26 213 on Polished Diamond Grading at IGI Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Tehmasp Printer, Managing Director – International Gemological Institute - India said: “The awareness for quality and certification is rising amongst consumers, and therefore a globally recognized certification Laboratory in India provides assurance and helps build consumer confidence.
