To address the threat of undisclosed mixing of Synthetic diamonds with Natural Diamonds, the Gemmological Institute of India (Gil), a project of GJEPC and co-sponsored by BDB has introduced a new instrument which immediately detects synthetic diamonds. The instrument which has been named as "Quick-Check", has been designed by the in-house research team of the Gemmological Institute of India and Arotek ..
Quick-Check takes only a few seconds to scan the 'High Pressure High Temperature' (HPHT) type lib diamonds once th ey are loaded in the detection chamber of the instrument. The instrument is simple to use and does not need a highly qualified professional to operate, unlike the currently available diamond detection instruments, which are technical and scientific and hence ·complex in nature.
Commenting on the induction of this instrument, MrBakul Mehta, Chairman, Gerr10logical Institute of India, said , "We will now be able to detect HPHT Type lib synthetic diamonds immediately and with absolute resu lts, with the introduction of 'Quick- Check'. This affordable device will be able to curtail the threat of mixing of synthetic diamonds in the market . This is so essential to maintain customer confidence.
